Did I Successfully Trick Myself Into Liking Reading?

A review of my strategy

I had a mission in 2022: tricking myself into liking reading again.

Not that I ever fell out of love completely with it, but for a long time, reading was just not as appealing as, let’s say, watching Selling Sunset or Love Is Blind, you know? But then I got bored by Chrishelle getting into a fight over a listing for the 76th time — I wanted a change. So, I devised a 4 pointer plan to break up with the rich and spoiled and rekindle my relationship with books.

Over a year later, I’m happy to report that I read every day now because it’s genuinely enjoyable for me. Oh, I also went from zero books in 2022 to twelve in 2023.

Now, okay, if you aren’t impressed, I don’t blame you. You probably see headlines like ‘I Read 117,000 Books This Week, Here’s What I Learned’ all the time. But in 2023, I was pretty busy with my thesis, work, and whatnot, so twelve books are, by my standard, a lot. Plus, they were all in French, my third language. I had to stick with it and push through the growing pains.

Completed in 2023

Vers la beauté
Changer l eau des fleurs
Le chant du Rossignol
Personne ne doit savoir
Tout le bleu du ciel
Comme toi
Après
Dans son silence
Loin
Numéro deux
Sixtine
Normal People
